This fish breaks all kinds of records.
DNR fishing team tagging record-breaking sturgeon at Shawano Dam.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials captured a record-sized lake sturgeon in the Wolf River near Shawano.
After being tagged by the DNR fishing crew, the fish was released back into the water to complete its spawning cycle.
Additionally, to assist with sturgeon restoration efforts in other regions of Wisconsin and other states, some of the eggs and semen from spawning fish are collected.

The record-breaking female sturgeon has seen interesting times.
1887 – The sturgeon is born.
1914: The fish is 27 years old and makes its first spawning run.
1915 – Wisconsin enacts a state closure of sturgeon harvesting to protect the population.
1932 – the fish turns 45 years old.
1945 – In its 58th year, the fish makes its eighth spawning.
1969: The fish is 82 years old and has had 38 spearfishing seasons on Lake Winnebago and 10 seasons on the Upriver lakes.
1990 – Milwaukee native Dan Folz retires as sturgeon biologist and is replaced by Ron Bruch.
2012: The fish is 125 years old and, while making its 25th spawning, is captured by DNR crews at Shawano Dam.
And although this sturgeon is the largest lake sturgeon ever caught in the US, and probably the oldest fish ever caught, there are sturgeon lurking in the waters of Canada, for example, that are even much larger.
