A committee vote will be needed to decide manager Erik ten Hag ‘s future at Man United.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be part of a three-man committee to make the final decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager.
On Tuesday (October 8), Man United’s leaders held a meeting that lasted up to 7 hours, the main topic was Ten Hag’s future after their worst ever start in the Premier League.
Those present included Ratcliffe and co-owner Joel Glazer, along with CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and director Sir Dave Brailsford.
Both CEO Collette Roche and CFO Roger Bell were present at the meeting, but it appears the meeting did not reach a final conclusion.
Asked about Ten Hag’s future last Friday, Ratcliffe insisted it was “not my decision”.
Asked if he had faith in Ten Hag, he told BBC Sport: “I don’t want to answer that question. I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach but in the end it’s not my decision.
The management team that runs Manchester United has to decide how best to run the team in many different aspects. But that team has only been together since June or July.
They weren’t there in January, February, March or April – Omar, Dan Ashworth – they only arrived in July. They’ve only been there… you can count in weeks – they haven’t been there long, so they need to reassess and make some sensible decisions.
Our objective is very clear – we want to get Manchester United back to where they should be, and it’s clear they’re not there yet – that’s very clear.”
However, according to the Daily Mail, Ratcliffe is part of a three-man committee alongside co-chairman Joel Glazer and INEOS sporting director Brailsford – and the trio are said to have the final say on Ten Hag’s future.
That decision will be based on recommendations from Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox, as they are the ones who work closely with Ten Hag on a daily basis.
Berrada and Ashworth publicly backed the Dutchman last month, but that was just before Man United were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool.
Man United have not won in their last five games in all competitions, after winning two games against Southampton in the Premier League and Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
