In the midst of filming the second season of Wednesday , a new rumor surrounding Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs circulated on social media. On October 10, 2024, an Instagram page with the username @vibes_with_moonlight claimed that Ortega landed the lead role in Wednesday by romancing Diddy.
The publication claimed there was a video of the actress admitting this and added that she allegedly also received $45 million for it.
“The problem is not over: SHOCKING NEWS: Leaked video of Jenna Ortega “ADMITTED” to sleeping with Diddy to get the lead role in the movie Wednesday and the amount of 45 million dollars. VIDEO ADMITTED Jenna Ortega,” read the caption.
This post is not true as it claims to be a “leaked video”, however, there is no such video included in it.
The rumor likely arose due to the hype surrounding Ortega and Diddy, with Netflix recently releasing a behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming season of Wednesday and Diddy’s arrest on sex trafficking and prostitution charges.
How was Jenna Ortega chosen to play Wednesday ?
Wednesday , which centers on the stoic daughter of The Addams Family, emerged as one of Netflix’s most successful shows in 2022.
During a ScreenRant interview in May 2023, Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said that Jenna Ortega was chosen as Wednesday Addams from the long list of potential actresses because of the accuracy of her performance.
“The lead in any show becomes your collaborator on the show, they just do. It’s inevitable. And this character has a precision. There’s a precision in Jenna’s performance, there’s a precision in how the character is written, there’s a precision in what Tim does, and we all had a lot of conversations about that because you’re just trying to make sure that the plane lands on a very small aircraft carrier in a very big ocean,” Gough said.
In a recent interview with Far Out magazine in September, Jenna Ortega said that she was initially hesitant about playing the title character because she was interested in working in movies rather than television. But Tim Burton, the show’s producer, approached her personally to consider the role and she eventually accepted after turning down the offer several times.
Ortega has also previously spoken about her auditions for the show. In an interview with Wired in 2022, she shared that she had to audition for Burton immediately after finishing a blood-filled scene from his X-rated horror film.
“I had blood and glycerin sweat in my hair and a huge cut on my face, and I had been awake for over 24 hours. I got on Zoom and he [Burton] laughed. It made me laugh. I thought it was endearing,” she said.
Filming for the new season is currently underway in Ireland. Emma Myers, Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones will reprise their roles as Enid, Gomez Addams and Morticia Addams. New additions to the cast include Thandie Newton and Billie Piper, among others.
Actress Christina Ricci, who played previous versions of Addams’ daughter in the ’90s films, appeared in the first season. It’s unclear if her character, Marilyn Thornhill, will appear in the upcoming season.
