Kanye West, currently going by the name Ye, has revealed that he turned down a $2 million offer to participate in a cryptocurrency scam. This scheme is believed to involve him posting a fraudulent cryptocurrency advertisement to his 32.6 million followers and claiming his account had been hacked hours later. By that time, victims could have potentially lost a significant amount of money.
“I was offered $2 million to scam my community. The people who did this have now backed off. I said no and stopped working with the people who suggested it,” West said in a post on X on February 7th.
West was asked to leave the X platform in 8 hours.
West included a screenshot in his post revealing how the scam promoting a “fake ye coin” would unfold.
The offer promised an initial payment of $750,000 for West to share the crypto ad and keep it running for 8 hours, followed by a payment of $1.25 million after 16 hours.
“The company asking you to do this will scam the public out of tens of millions of dollars,” the message said.
An hour later, West shared a screenshot of a private conversation where he asked an unnamed X user to share a “crypto connect” name without an intermediary.
The user responded by mentioning Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and offering to get his phone number for West.
By rejecting the lucrative offer, Kanye West has shown integrity and refused to participate in a scam aimed at deceiving and defrauding his fans and followers. His actions serve as a reminder to always be cautious and vigilant when it comes to cryptocurrency investments and ads on social media platforms.
