After waiting patiently for a lucrative contract extension, CeeDee Lamb and the Cowboys finally reached an agreement on a four-year pact worth $136 million, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Rapoport added that Lamb’s deal carries $100 million in guarantees and a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever for a wide receiver. His $136 million contract is just shy of the record-setting four-year, $140 million deal Justin Jefferson signed with the Minnesota Vikings in June.
BSO CEO Robert Littal provided some interesting insight that might explain Lamb’s decision to put pen to paper. As Littal noted, it’s “considered a win for” a player if 70 percent of their contract is guaranteed. In Lamb’s case, 73 percent of his shiny new deal is guaranteed:
With Lamb’s contract taken care of, owner Jerry Jones can now turn his focus to quarterback Dak Prescott. The 31-year-old Pro Bowler is entering the final year of a $160 million extension he signed with Dallas in the 2021 offseason.
Prescott’s deal features a no-tag clause. So if the star signal-caller wants, he can leave Lamb and the Cowboys and test free agency next year.
CeeDee Lamb Had A Career Year In 2023
The 25-year-old Lamb had the best season of his young career in 2023, recording a league-leading 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. He easily broke the previous personal bests set in 2022, when Lamb caught 107 passes for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns.
Lamb and the Cowboys will kick off their 2024 season with a road game against Myles Garrett’s Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8. This game will also mark Tom Brady’s highly-anticipated debut as an NFL analyst for FOX Sports as he begins a 10-year, $375 million deal with the network.
