Mason Greenwood’s rise to fame in France continues after scoring twice in less than a minute for his new team Marseille.

The 22-year-old scored five goals in three games since moving from Old Trafford to Stade Velodrome for a claimed £19.8 million in July.

In the sixteenth minute, Greenwood scored the first goal between Marseille and Toulouse. He then quickly added another goal in less than 60 seconds.

In the first three games of the Ligue 1 season, the player who used to play for United’s academy has scored the same number of goals as another Manchester-born player who played for the blue half of Manchester.

Mario Balotelli set a record for most goals scored in a single season when he joined Nice from Manchester City in 2016. Greenwood has now matched that record.

He will also be trying to match the Italian’s skill in front of French goals. From 2016 to 2019, he scored 33 goals in 66 Ligue 1 games.

On the other hand, Marseille and Toulouse lost 3-1 at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse on Saturday.

Both of Greenwood’s goals were set up by Luis Henrique, a forward from Brazil. Charlie Cresswell, a centre back for Toulouse, scored an own goal that made it 3–0 for Marseille.

But late in the second half, Gabon striker Shavy Babicka got a consolation goal for the home team by slotting the ball past Marseille custodian Geronimo Rulli.

Greenwood is a player in great shape for Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi. He scored three goals on his debut against Brest in August and one goal against Reims just last week.

Greenwood will want to return Les Olympiens for their faith in him after he left Manchester before his career really took off.

The forward began his professional career at Old Trafford, where he was praised for his skills. However, he was suspended in January 2022 after being accused of attempted rape and sexual attack.

However, the charges were dropped in February 2023, which let Greenwood start over with his job. Last season, he did this by playing on loan for Getafe in Spain, where he scored eight goals in 33 LaLiga games.

Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille’s new head coach, told reporters after the game, “We had a good first half and scored two goals.”The extra player gave us an advantage, and we counted on Greenwood’s strength in one-on-one situations to score both goals.

We still need to make this team faster and smarter. We should have won 3-0 and not given up the goal.

Marseille and Nantes are now tied for first place in Ligue 1 with seven points each. Nantes beat Montpellier 3-1 on the road on Saturday.
