“Chevalier and Jonathan David punish Real Madrid ’s laziness ,” was the headline in Spanish newspaper Sport. David scored the only goal from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time to give Lille the win and condemn Carlo Ancelotti’s side to their first defeat in all competitions since January.
Sport newspaper criticizes Real Madrid for being “lazy”
Meanwhile, journalist Pepe Gil Vernet of Mundo Deportivo (Spain) wrote an article with the headline: “Real Madrid, a disaster in the match against Lille”. Gil Vernet said that Lille, one of the lowest-rated teams, exposed all the shortcomings of the team led by coach Ancelotti. “The White Vultures” were outclassed by their opponents throughout the match.
Real Madrid started poorly, complicated by Camavinga’s silly penalty before the break. In the second half, the defending champions failed to find a solution to all their problems.
Coach Ancelotti tried to turn the situation around by all means possible. The Italian strategist even pushed center-back Rudiger to play as a striker in the final minutes of the match. However, Chevalier denied two chances from the German center-back and another chance from Guler, leaving Real Madrid empty-handed.
“Real Madrid are muscular, but less supple, a problem that has not been solved since the departure of Toni Kroos. The German has proven that every team is a vertebrate,” commented Luis Nieto of AS.
In the Spanish newspaper Marca, journalist Jose Maria Rodriguez analyzed: “The derby with Atletico on September 30 may have exhausted Ancelotti’s team. Three reflex saves from goalkeeper Chevalier prevented Real Madrid from equalizing in a very late reaction. Lille took advantage of the ‘White Vulture’s’ imbalance to win a very meaningful victory.”
