Practice Points: Diggs getting back to form.ts.truc

OXNARD, Calif. – Here are some observations from the staff writers after Tuesday’s practice:

  • Trevon Diggs is quickly getting back to form and right in time for camp to wrap in Oxnard and head back to Dallas. Having grabbed an interception last week in practice, the First-Team All-Pro cornerback doubled up by grabbing one in Tuesday’s session, this time against All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott. Diggs will not participate in this weekend’s preseason finale against the Chargers, but he’s on track, maybe even ahead of schedule, for the Week 1 battle with the Cleveland Browns. – (Patrik Walker)
  • It was yet another strong day for Jourdan Lewis who bounced back after almost nabbing an interception in the short game that was instead strong-grabbed by Jalen Tolbert. In the reps to follow, he would prove to be disruptive in the red territory with two pass breakups in the red zone. Lewis has proven to be a reliable force at the nickel position during camp and is poised to have a strong eighth NFL season. – (Nick Harris)
  • 10 things to know about Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs, including possibly facing his brother
  • It’s going down to the wire for the battle at wide receiver, the war for depth getting hot and heavy as the end of August approaches. Tyron Billy-Johnson has yet to parlay his practice stardom into preseason games, and the same goes for Jalen Cropper, while Kelvin Harmon has not only picked up steam — he’s becoming a quarterback’s best friend both in Oxnard and in critical moments in games. On Tuesday, he was back at it and showing no signs of letting up. – (Patrik Walker)
  • We’ve heard a lot about Trey Lance in previous weeks as he looks to push for the backup quarterback spot, but Cooper Rush continues to show consistency and reliability with each rep he takes. A standout play today came on a seam throw for a touchdown in red zone work that he fit right in between Israel Mukuamu and Markquese Bell into the breadbasket of Jalen Cropper for a touchdown. – (Nick Harris)
  • Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs out for season with torn ACL
  • Speaking of Jalen Cropper, it was a much better showing on Tuesday as he made far more plays than not and got back to showing he’s a factor in the WR depth conversation; but that has to translate against the Chargers on Saturday at AT&T Stadium. It was an exceptionally competitive practice for Cropper though, and that’s proof he’s not hanging his head about what happened against the Raiders. – (Patrik Walker)
  • In one-on-one pass rush work, Cooper Beebe continuously showed an anchor and strong hands at the point of attack that resulted in yet another strong day for the rookie out of Kansas State. In team drills, Beebe received the majority of the reps with the first-team while Brock Hoffman rotated in. It seems as though Hoffman and Beebe are alternating the bulk of first-team reps with each padded practice as a decision nears on who will draw the starting assignment in week one against the Browns. – (Nick Harris)
