In the 11th match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America this morning (November 16), Colombia lost 2-3 on Uruguay’s field and lost second place in the group to this opponent.
Colombia, after an impressive start, are now showing signs of decline in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After a surprise 0-1 loss to Bolivia, they beat Chile 4-0 in the next round, but recently lost again to Uruguay.
Quintero opened the scoring for Colombia in the 31st minute and they went into the break with a one-goal lead. However, early in the second half, Davinson Sanchez scored an own goal for Uruguay to equalize. In the 60th minute, Aguirre put the home team 2-1 up.
In the 90’+6 minute, Gomez equalized 2-2 for Colombia. However, in the 90’+11 minute, Ugarte scored the final goal to make it 3-2, bringing a dramatic victory for Uruguay.
With this victory, Uruguay has surpassed Colombia to take second place in the group. The two teams are equal on points but Uruguay has a better goal difference (+8) than Colombia (+6). Uruguay is now only 3 points behind the leader Argentina after Albiceleste unexpectedly lost 1-2 to Paraguay.
In the next match, Peru drew 0-0 at home to Chile. This result left the two teams tied at the bottom of the table. Peru finished ninth with 7 points while Chile was bottom with 6 points.
The next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America will take place on November 20. The most notable match is the battle between Brazil and Uruguay.
