Manchester United wants to sign Odilon Kossounou, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, during the summer transfer window.
We think United will get a new center back at the end of the season.
Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof’s futures are still uncertain, and Harry Maguire might not be the best long-term option.
A lot of center-backs have already been linked with United, and Odilon Kossounou from Bayer Leverkusen can now be added to the list.
Sky Florian Plettenberg in Germany says that United is interested in Kossounou. He isn’t their top priority right now, but they want to get him in the summer.
Kossounou might not be a well-known player right now, but let’s learn more about the Ivorian guard…
What we know about Odilon Kossounou so far
Kossounou was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He began his journey with ASEC Mimosas, which is one of the biggest clubs in the Ivory Coast.
You may know Didier Zokora, Emmanuel Eboue, Gervinho, Salomon Kalou, Kolo Toure, and Yaya Toure. They were all part of the ASEC Mimosas and went on to do great things in Europe.
MORE STORIES ABOUT THE UNITED
Kossounou is one of their newest stars. He rose to fame as a young player before moving to Sweden with Hammarby in 2019.
The 6ft 3in defender only stayed in Sweden for a few months, though, as he was quickly moved to Club Brugge in Belgium after only 13 games for Hammarby.
The promise was clear, and Kossounou’s rise continued when he was offered a move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. The Bundesliga club paid about £25 million to get him.
Kossounou has had an amazing rise and is now a key player for Leverkusen, who are chasing the Bundesliga title. He has played 88 times for Xabi Alonso’s team.
What they say about Odilon Kossounou is
“He’s really quick, quick to change directions, strong in a challenge, technically good, and he hasn’t even reached his full potential yet.” “He has everything he needs to be an important part of our team,” said Simon Rolfes, sports director at Leverkusen.
Odilon Kossounou is a great fit for our group. A central defender with great promise in the game and impressive speed and body language. In the coming years, he will do well for us. as Rudi Voller, a former striker for Leverkusen.
Agent Patrick Mork said, “He is a complete defender for me. He is very fast, as he showed last year in the Champions League against a certain Mbappe.”
A look at Odilon Kossounou’s move to Manchester United
United needs to get faster at the back, and Kossounou is a great choice for that.
At 6 feet 3 inches tall, the center back is a big man, and for a center back, he has really fast feet.
At age 23, Kossounou isn’t quite ready, but he could be a good long-term match for Lisandro Martinez.
It’s worth noting that Kossounou can also play right back, giving the defense some flexibility.
There won’t be a deal in January, but Kossounou could win the title by the end of the season, and we’d love to see him join United’s new backline in the future.
