Coach Erik Ten Hag said Man Utd may be without some key players in the Community Shield match against Man City at Wembley Stadium (London) at 9:00 p.m. on August 10.
New signing Leny Yoro will be sidelined for at least three months with a foot injury and centre-back Will Fish will also miss the Community Shield with a hamstring injury.
The Dutch coach is also uncertain about the ability to play of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, as well as full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw.
“Harry Maguire was absent from the previous friendly match against Liverpool, this was a forced situation because he has not fully recovered. I do not know if this player can play in the final against Man City or not.
Victor Lindelof played in a friendly match on August 4 but had to leave the field before the first half ended. Whether Azza Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw will play or not is still a question mark, we need to practice and evaluate more,” coach Ten Hag shared with the press.
The Dutch tactician also mentioned the possibility of playing Lisandro Martinez in defence after the player returned to the team late from the summer break.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund will also miss the match against Man City due to injury, which paves the way for Joshua Zirkzee to make his Man Utd debut. The striker has arrived at Old Trafford less than a month since moving from Italian club Bologna.
Coach Ten Hag’s squad still has many notable names such as Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford or Jadon Sancho. Especially the young talent Kobbie Mainoo, who contributed greatly to the “Red Devils” winning 2-1 against Man City in the FA Cup final on May 25.
Coach Ten Hag also showed his determination before entering the match with Man City: “We want to win, we have had to work very hard to be able to play this match, that’s why I will launch the strongest squad to win the cup.”
The Community Shield match between Man Utd and Man City will take place at 9:00 p.m. on August 10 at Wembley Stadium (London, England).
