Manchester United are still looking to sign a central midfielder before the summer transfer window closes next week. Despite having a number of names on their shortlist, the Red Devils’ top priority is Manuel Ugarte – the midfielder who was left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad by Luis Enrique for the opening game of the new season.
The only reason why Man Utd have not been able to complete this deal is because of the transfer fee that PSG is asking for, which is around 60 million euros. However, with Enrique having eliminated Ugarte from his plans, it is not impossible that PSG will accept a discount to quickly push the Uruguayan star. Obviously, they will not want to spend more than 6 million euros/season (data from Capology) to pay the salary of a player who does not even appear on the bench.
On the other hand, a number of players are facing the door of leaving Old Trafford this week , such as Facundo Pellistri. According to confirmation from The Athletic, the Uruguayan talent has reached an agreement to join Panathinaikos through a 4-year contract, while the team is also negotiating with Man Utd to find a common voice on the transfer fee. It is known that the Red Devils are asking for about 10 million euros for Pellistri’s service, and Panathinaikos is expected to be able to meet this figure.
According to Manchester World, Man United are actively looking to offload Victor Lindelof before the transfer window closes. Of course, Lindelof is still a quality centre-back, but the Red Devils have too many players in this position and the Swedish star is only considered the 5th or 6th choice. Moreover, Lindelof’s contract has less than 12 months left, so it is not surprising that the Old Trafford team wants to quickly sell this player.
Similar to Lindelof, the midfield duo Hannibal Mejbri and Christian Eriksen will also officially expire their contracts with Man Utd next summer. While Mejbri no longer has a place in the Man Utd squad, Eriksen’s role has significantly decreased and he also did not play in the opening match of the season against Fulham. Seeing the Red Devils sell Donny Van de Beek for a fee of 500,000 euros, it would be a big surprise if they accept to lose Mejbri and Eriksen for free next year.
The sixth player who could leave Man Utd this week is Scott McTominay, who is attracting strong interest from Fulham. For their part, the Red Devils will immediately allow McTominay to leave if they receive an offer of £30 million, and according to many sources, the London club are now seriously considering the decision to “break the bank” for the Scottish midfielder.
And finally, there is the case of Jadon Sancho, who was surprisingly absent from the win over Fulham last weekend. According to confirmation from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sancho’s agent is still discussing a potential transfer with PSG, and with Man Utd also keen on Ugarte, the possibility of the two sides conducting a swap deal cannot be ruled out.
