Mike Tyson’s boxing legend has finally spoken out about his long-awaited rematch with boxer Jake Paul, a YouTube sensation rumored to be worth 700 million dollars. The fight, which has been the subject of speculation for months, could become one of the most profitable events in the history of boxing if it comes to fruition.
During an interview on a popular sports podcast, Tyson acknowledged ongoing discussions, but was cautious about confirming the matter.
“If there is much talk, there are many offers on the table. 700 million dollars is a crazy figure, but if the commercial aspect works, I would consider it. I’m always open to giving them to fanatics whatever they want, always when it’s good”, says Tyson.
The 57-year-old former heavyweight champion seemed relaxed, but emphasized the importance of fair negotiations.
“I’m not going to go back to the ring solo for money. It has meaning, in terms of health, legacy and for fanatics. It’s not about demonstrating anything. It’s about entertainment,” he added.
Jake Paul, known for his aggressive self-promotion, didn’t waste time responding to Tyson’s comments.
“Mike Tyson is a legend and returning to fight with him would be an honor. But this time, I’m here to demonstrate that I’m not just an influencer, I’m a real boxer. Let’s make history”, stated Paul in a publication on social networks.
Paul’s team has insinuated that negotiations are in advanced stages, with both sides working to finalize terms, including location, prize division and skin rules.
The first fight between Tyson and Paul was a worldwide spectacle, which combined nostalgia for Tyson’s legendary career with Paul’s appeal to a younger audience. If it successfully combats criticism from purists, it will generate massive paid-for-view sales and expand boxing’s reach to new demographic groups.
Despite their enthusiasm, some boxing experts and aficionados have expressed their concern about Tyson’s return to the ring in their hometown. However, Tyson reassured his followers:
“I’m in very good shape, mentally and physically. If I decide to fight, I’ll make sure I’m ready.”
If there is no official announcement yet, industry experts believe that the battle could take place by mid-2025, and headquarters in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia are being considered. If the agreement comes to fruition, it could establish new audience and earnings records, consolidating the status of Tyson and Paul as important actors in the hybrid era of sports and entertainment.
