Dodgers Trade Pitcher Ryan Brasier to Chicago Cubs in Exchange for Future Considerations
Los Angeles, CA – February 19, 2025 – The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially traded veteran relief pitcher Ryan Brasier to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a player to be named later (PTBNL) or cash considerations. The deal was confirmed by both teams earlier today.
Brasier, 36, played a key role in the Dodgers’ bullpen last season, posting a 2.75 ERA over 52 innings pitched. After joining Los Angeles in mid-2023, he quickly became a reliable late-inning option for manager Dave Roberts. Despite his solid performance, the Dodgers opted to move Brasier as part of their efforts to restructure their pitching staff ahead of the 2025 season.
For the Cubs, this trade bolsters their relief corps with a seasoned veteran who brings playoff experience and a proven track record. Chicago’s bullpen struggled with consistency last season, and adding a reliable arm like Brasier could provide much-needed stability.
“We’re excited to bring Ryan into our organization,” said Cubs general manager Carter Hawkins in a press release. “His experience and ability to perform in high-pressure situations will be a valuable addition to our team.”
The specifics of the return for the Dodgers remain unclear, as they will either receive a minor league prospect at a later date or cash considerations. Given the Dodgers’ depth in the bullpen, this move allows them to free up roster space while keeping flexibility for future transactions.
This trade marks one of several roster adjustments the Dodgers have made as they continue to build a championship-caliber team around their new star acquisitions, including Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Meanwhile, the Cubs are looking to solidify their pitching staff in hopes of contending in the National League Central division.
Both teams will continue their spring training preparations, with Brasier expected to join the Cubs in Mesa, Arizona, later this week.
