“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in” is a quote the Warriors squad can use to describe their run-ins with major troubles. If going from a 12-3 to a 20-20 win record wasn’t bad enough, they’ve also continued dealing with ailment troubles, with stars like Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga holding poor positions with their averages. Now, as the Warriors-Wizards game went underway, Stephen Curry’s former teammate handed them a blow that may worsen the situation for the Bay franchise by A LOT.
During the closing minutes of the 4th quarter, Poole drove to the basket for a layup attempt. Stephen Curry rose to block him. While Curry was successful, the block came at the cost of him coming in contact with Poole as the latter fell. As the Splash Bro was then walking away, it was clear that something was wrong with his ankle. He continued limping, and the sharpshooter was subbed out.
The Athletic’s Anthony Slater went on to state that Curry’s injury “Looked like a painful left ankle twist”. Steve Kerr provided an update during the post-game presser, stating that “Steph just told me he doesn’t think it’s serious”.
However, it still wasn’t an official diagnosis that provided the extent of the injury. Therefore, until fans know more about what this means for Curry, they’re looking to understand the reason. This caused Jordan Poole to become a verbal target for several of them.
NBA fans take shots at Jordan Poole over Stephen Curry’s injury, as some indicate unlikely ‘purposeful’ intentions
One social media user wrote “Incoming “Steph will be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks” because Poole’s stupid a-s”.
Similar to many of his on-court rivals, Stephen Curry hasn’t been able to avoid injuries throughout the ongoing season. The Warrior has sustained issues in his ankle, hip, and knee. He even developed a right cervical facet inflammation, at one point. These ailments have caused him to miss a total of 8 games this season. The Warriors are already in a poor situation in terms of their win record. Therefore, a long-term absence of their star player would eliminate any playoff hopes for this season.
One social media user wrote, “Poole fell on Steph, looks like he’s hurt. I hope nothing too serious.” Well, as Steve Kerr highlighted during the post-game presser, the player himself made it clear that he doesn’t consider the injury to be serious.
However, the Warriors HC added that both Curry and Green will anyway be placed under a ‘Day-To-Day’ status. Green had just returned to the lineup after missing three games because of an illness. Unfortunately, the floor general ended up sustaining a left calf tightness in the first quarter. And the power forward had to exit the game early.
Some fans began to suspect foul play. One individual wrote, “Did Poole MOF Ass pull at Steph Leg (side eye emoji) on purpose (thinking face and shrug emoji)”.
It is no secret that Jordan Poole’s time with the Golden State Warriors was filled with some complications. Getting hit by Draymond Green during a practice session certainly tops that list. Despite this, it may be a stretch to think that the former star’s actions, which caused Steph’s injury, were on purpose. Furthermore, there are no reports currently that attest to any revenge angle.
Unfortunately, even though there may be no evidence of foul play, some people would not be easily convinced. The same was seen when another social media user wrote, “Poole did that to steph on purpose”.
One individual attempted to add to the previous claims by writing, “Poole with a dirty play on Steph there. He actually pulled the ankle.” As highlighted by ‘PooleMuse’, Poole landed on Curry’s right foot, while it was the left foot that was affected. However, both actions were related, since the left leg was outstretched and sustained the injury. Despite this, with Poole landing on his back, and his front facing the other way, it does not really prove the intention to be on purpose.
Despite everything, there was no denying that the Washington Wizards star could have been more careful. This belief may have led one social media user to write, “(Unamused face emoji) Jordan Poole clumsy mf hurt Steph”. Several things can happen in the heat of the moment. However, ‘clumsy’ was certainly one lesser brutal way to describe what had recently occurred.
Overall, the majority of reactions took a negative stance against Jordan Poole. The tide may only turn more negative if Stephen Curry’s injury causes him to miss out on a streak of games. Only time will tell whether JP gets away with his predicament, or not…
