Only Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knows whether or not he actually wants to re-sign quarterback Dak Prescott.

With just nine days before the start of the regular season, the Cowboys seem no closer to signing Prescott to an extension than they were before the start of training camp, which is why Jones was ripped apart in a recent poll of NFL agents conducted by The Athletic.

“The Cowboys got themselves into a mess,” one anonymous agent said. “That’s what happens when the owner gets too involved and becomes friends with the players. I wouldn’t pay Dak $60 million per year, and they can’t make all three guys (Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb) the highest paid at their respective positions.”

Added another agent: “The Cowboys don’t have any hierarchy. Always a day late and a dollar short in free agency. You have to go through 30 layers of bureaucratic process to get anything done — and you know why.”

Many expect the 31-year-old Prescott to become the NFL’s first $60 million-per-year player, but it’s not known if Jones wants — or can afford — to pay him such an exorbitant amount of money after signing Lamb to a four-year, $136M deal days ago. Jones will likely be signing Parsons to a massive contract extension next year as well.

Jones seemingly has something different to say about Prescott’s contract status on a weekly basis. The QB finally clapped back at his GM, stating on Thursday that anything Jones says about him in the media just rolls off his back, per Bleacher Report.

Prescott is in the final year of his contract and the longer this drags out, the more it appears that Jones is content to let Prescott play out the season and re-evaluate next offseason.
