In a recent interview, Ice Cube revealed that he has been a long-time supporter of Mel Gibson, despite the controversy surrounding the actor’s anti-Semitic remarks. The rapper-turned-actor explained that he has always believed that people should be given a second chance, and that Gibson has made amends for his past mistakes.
“I’ve known Mel for a long time, and I’ve always thought that he was a good guy,” Ice Cube said. “I know that he made some mistakes in the past, but I think that he’s learned from them and has grown as a person. I believe that everyone deserves a second chance, and I think that Mel has earned his.”
Ice Cube also revealed that he has had a personal experience with Oprah Winfrey, who he claims punished him for not supporting her views. According to Ice Cube, Oprah was upset with him because he refused to support her film “The Color Purple” when it was released in the 1980s.
“I remember Oprah coming to me and asking me to support her film,” Ice Cube said. “I told her that I didn’t think it was a good film, and that I didn’t think it would be successful. She was really upset with me, and she started to distance herself from me. I guess she thought that I was being disloyal or something.”
Ice Cube went on to explain that Oprah’s punishment against him was severe, and that it affected his career in the entertainment industry.
“After that, I couldn’t get any work in Hollywood,” Ice Cube said. “I think Oprah used her influence to make sure that I didn’t get any more jobs. It was tough for me, but I learned a lot from the experience. I learned that you can’t always trust people, and that you have to be careful about who you do business with.”
