Technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch – once dubbed the British Bill Gates – is missing after his superyacht Bayesian sank off the coast of Italy on August 19.
Italian media reported that 12 guests and 10 crew members were on the Bayesian when the accident occurred. Billionaire Mike Lynch’s wife was among the 15 people rescued. Rescuers recovered a body from the sunken superyacht area believed to be the chef who worked on the Bayesian.
Some sources said that billionaire Mike Lynch had an accident when he and his wife, children and friends held a party to celebrate his acquittal from fraud charges two months ago.
Mike Lynch is a well-known technology entrepreneur and has been dubbed the “British Bill Gates”. The 59-year-old billionaire was born in Ilford and grew up near Chelmsford in Essex, to a nurse mother and a firefighter father. In the early 1980s, while studying for his PhD, he founded his first company, Lynett Systems Ltd, which produced technology equipment for the music industry.
In 1996, the British billionaire co-founded software company Autonomy, which quickly became the largest technology startup in the UK at that time. In 2012, he co-founded venture capital fund Invoke Capital. The 59-year-old billionaire also co-founded cybersecurity company Darktrace. The British tycoon has also held many other roles in the technology world, including consulting work.
Billionaire Mike Lynch has received an OBE and many other awards. He was voted the most influential person in Britain by Computer Weekly in 2011. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2008 and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014.
The 59-year-old billionaire and his wife, Angela Bacares, have two daughters, of whom Hannah is the second.
