De Gea says he loves Man United on his debut day at his new team
“Man United is a top club and my heart will always be there,” De Gea made no secret of his affection for his former team.
“I never thought about retiring, it was just difficult to find the motivation for a new chapter after 12 years at a top club like Man United. And I finally felt that at Fiorentina,” the Spanish goalkeeper expressed.
“I spent a year in Manchester before returning to Madrid. I wanted to maintain a high level. I didn’t stop. It’s not easy to train alone. I spent two years in Manchester and that’s my home. That’s where my heart is.

I found it difficult to find the motivation to evaluate the offers, so I decided to take a leave of absence. I have been training every day, even more than before. I am maintaining quite well and it will probably take a while in the first matches, but I have been playing for many years, so just put me in the goalkeeper position and everything will fall into place.”
De Gea has signed a one-year contract with Fiorentina, including an option to extend for a further 12 months. The goalkeeper born in 1990 has been unemployed since leaving United last summer after failing to agree a contract extension.
Goalkeeper De Gea also revealed that despite not playing for a team for a long time, he has received numerous attractive offers. And the former Man United star has special praise for the Fiorentina backroom team for convincing him to join La Viola.
“I am proud to wear the Viola shirt and represent Florence. Thank you to everyone. I want to thank the technical staff. It was a strange year when I decided to take a sabbatical, but I continued to train alone.
I had to be at my best, and when Fiorentina came, I had clear ideas. They have great fans and a great history. It was an easy decision. Fiorentina also have great players and a great goalkeeper.”
