Michael Jordan’s retirement from the NBA left behind a legacy that many consider nearly impossible to replicate. With an unmatched resume, Jordan is often at the center of the GOAT debate. Meanwhile, LeBron James, who is on the cusp of his 22nd NBA season, continues to build his own legendary career. As a result, the NBA community finds itself increasingly divided between these two basketball icons.

Recently, former NBA coach Avery Johnson weighed in on this ongoing debate during an appearance on Mark Jackson’s podcast, The Mark Jackson Show. Johnson made it clear that, in his opinion, Michael Jordan still stands alone at the top.

We can really peel back all of the numbers. You can even go with the eye test, but everybody else is a distant second behind Mike. And there’s no disrespect to it,” Johnson stated.

Michael Jordan Talks About Meeting Wilt Chamberlain

While LeBron James and Michael Jordan are often at the center of the debate over who is the greatest NBA player of all time, some still believe that Wilt Chamberlain deserves the title. Chamberlain’s influence is still felt by those who grew up watching him play.

Jordan grew up admiring Chamberlain and shared his excitement about meeting the legendary player.

I got the chance to meet Wilt Chamberlain for the first time, which I thought was a privilege for me being that I finished second to him in a lot of individual stats and career stats and scoring stats. He was very nice to visit. He came up to me and congratulated me on my career,” Jordan recalled in an interview with MDBBall.

Although both Jordan and James have surpassed many of Chamberlain’s records, there is one that remains seemingly unbreakable. Chamberlain is still the only player in NBA history to score 100 points in a single game.
