The ink on the 2024 World Series trophy was barely dry before the first shots of the new season were fired, courtesy of Yankees manager Aaron Boone. After a dominant performance, the Dodgers are clearly riding high, but it appears their victory celebrations didn’t sit well with Boone, who publicly accused the Dodgers of lacking class.
The Dodgers’ victory was a cathartic release. After years of playoff heartbreak, including a shocking loss to the Padres in 2022 and the Diamondbacks in 2023, their 2024 championship finally silenced the doubters. The players, fueled by a mix of relief and vindication, let loose in the post-season celebrations, which included a podcast where they discussed the season.
Boone, however, seems to have taken exception to the perceived cockiness of the Dodgers. While the Dodgers players reveled in their victory, including comments about their rivals, their comments were not all that positive.
The Dodgers’ scouting report revealed the Yankees’ defensive shortcomings, particularly in the outfield. The team found the Yankees were unable to complete the basic plays and this was the reason the dodgers had won. Even Boone admitted in the interview with the reporter, it was not his best performance, and that they had to handle things better.
This “war” of words is just the beginning. With the Dodgers’ dominance and the Yankees’ determination, a rematch in the World Series seems almost inevitable. Only time will tell if the Dodgers can maintain their composure and class, or if the Yankees will finally claim their revenge.
