OXNARD, Calif. — A fire broke out at Dallas Cowboys’ training camp on Tuesday at 4:55 p.m. PT, resulting in a call to first responders — Oxnard Police and Fire Department responding swiftly to the scene before successfully containing the blaze shortly thereafter.

Players and coaches were engaged in a team walkthrough several hundred yards away when the incident occurred and several staff members noticed smoke before notifying local authorities and hotel personnel, though the building itself was unoccupied.

The Cowboys have issued an official statement on the incident at 6:10 p.m. PT:

“There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif. The emergency was contained to one room that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.”

The team completed their afternoon walkthrough and there was no disruption from that standpoint, and the Cowboys remain on schedule to depart Oxnard for Dallas on Thursday afternoon to finish their preparation for their preseason finale against the Los Angeles Charger at AT&T Stadium.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
