Manchester United winger Antony was selected as a starter by Erik ten Hag against Chelsea and the Brazilian delivered an all-action display.
Antony has not had an easy season for Manchester United on or off the pitch and ahead of last night’s game he spoke out about what he felt was unfair criticism.
Erik ten Hag is the one whose opinion matters most, and the Manchester United manager thinks highly of him.
Antony was started by Ten Hag against Chelsea and was kept on the field the entire time. The winger gave him a fierce performance, and the Red Devils prevailed 2-1.
Antony collapsed at the final whistle after a relentless performance, full on effort, which was exactly what Manchester United fans demanded.
Speaking on MUTV after seeing Antony crash down on the turf, pundit Danny Webber said this summed up his performance.
Webber said: “Antony falls to the ground knowing what he’s put in. These are the results you get when you put in a shift, you make your own luck.
“Everybody on the pitch is pulling in the same direction, making it awkward for Chelsea when they have got the ball.”
What we are still looking for from Antony is end product, and the search for a first goal or assist this season goes on.
End product is what we still need to see from Antony, and this season, we’re still waiting for a first goal or an assist.
However, what you do get from him is all of his effort, and Manchester United supporters were thrilled with his performance.
Antony tried four shots, won one penalty, and created 2 big chances. He also shown confidence in his performance, pulling off several nifty moves that embarrassed Thiago Silva in the first half.
He totaled 52 touches, four fouls won, and 8 Duels won. His performance set the tone, and United hopes to see more of it in the future.
