Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro were both forced to leave the field in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal in Los Angeles, causing coach Ten Hag to be very worried about the injury obsession that has caused the club to decline.
Manchester United will know the extent of Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro’s injuries within 48 hours after both were substituted in the first half of their 2-1 friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles. Hojlund walked straight down the tunnel while Yoro looked unwell.
Coach Ten Hag’s poisonous moves revive Man United
(PLO)- Manchester United’s decision to keep coach Ten Hag depends largely on the Dutch strategist building a good working relationship with the club’s new Board of Directors, as well as being friendly with the players, especially reviving striker Rashford.
Striker Hojlund gave United the lead in the 10th minute when he latched onto Marcus Rashford’s pass and fired past Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein. The Danish star also blocked Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s close-range pass but then suffered a muscle injury after just 15 minutes, forcing him off.
18-year-old defender Leny Yoro, who joined United from Lille for £52m earlier this month, was in hospital for a lengthy period before he was forced off. “We have to wait 24 hours and hope that the players are not seriously injured,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “We are very careful, especially with Leny. It is disappointing that he has to go off but let’s be optimistic and see how it goes.”
Yoro had to leave the pitch after a long treatment and it seems his injury is causing concern for many. The usual procedure for the United medical team is to wait 24 hours for Yoro’s swelling to subside before carrying out a scan for a more accurate assessment. Meanwhile, Hojlund suffered a hamstring injury after a sprint, showing outstanding speed and stamina to score the opening goal.
Defender Jonny Evans has spoken of concerns regarding Hojlund and Yoro: “Obviously we don’t want any injuries, especially in pre-season. One of the most important things at the moment is to try to avoid injuries and stay fit. Hopefully Hojlund and Yoro’s injuries won’t be too bad.”
Ten Hag has been left with a worrying injury scare. The Dutchman has warned that the new season will depend on the strength of his squad. But with the spate of injuries that plagued him last season, and the loss of two new players in harmless fashion less than three weeks before United’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford on 16 August, Ten Hag is doubtful that his luck will be on his side.
After Victor Lindelof was sidelined with a minor injury, 20-year-old Rhys Bennett – who spent part of last season on loan at Stockport – partnered Harry Maguire after Yoro came on. Ten Hag’s unforced changes ruined a good start at the SoFi Stadium against Arsenal and he was also furious with Gabriel Jesus’ equaliser, claiming the striker was offside.
Gabriel Martinelli then passed the ball to 17-year-old full-back James Scanlon to score the decisive goal against MU, and the loss was also another concern for coach Ten Hag when leading.
