The New York Yankees lost superstar Juan Soto this offseason to their cross-town rivals, the New York Mets. Soto made it clear that he believes the Mets are in a better position to compete for a championship in 2025. However, Aaron Judge had a different perspective on Soto’s comments, expressing confidence that the Yankees are more than capable of making another run at the World Series.
Judge responded to Soto’s remarks, saying, “That’s his opinion. He can say whatever he wants, but I disagree with him.” While acknowledging that Soto would be in a great spot with the Mets, Judge added, “It’s going to be great having him in town, and we’ll be battling it out for years.” Judge also recognized the financial aspect of Soto’s decision, noting that the $765 million, 15-year deal Soto received from the Mets was hard to pass up. “You can’t say no to that,” Judge said.
Although Soto and Judge spent just one season together, Soto opted to leave the Yankees even after they presented a strong 16-year, $760 million offer. Despite the Yankees’ best efforts, Soto chose the Mets’ slightly higher offer. In response to losing Soto, the Yankees quickly bolstered their roster, making key additions like Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, and Devin Williams to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season.
