Paris Jackson has been a superstar all her life despite being only 24 years old and the second daughter of iconic musician Michael Jackson.
Paris has experienced several hardships since her father’s death. But the talented young woman is now pursuing her own career as a singer.
Despite the ups and downs of his life, he has now made the decision to talk about his upbringing with his father, nicknamed the “King of Pop.”
Few people are unaware of Michael Jackson’s existence. “I mean, they don’t call you the ‘King of Pop’ for nothing, do they?” But as much as we love his music, the late singer’s life wasn’t easy.
Michael Jackson can be considered a product, someone who was created from a young age to be an artist and singer. That won’t change the fact that his music, his dancing and his writing are absolute masterpieces.
The entire world mourned the musician’s passing in 2009. He had spent virtually his entire life hounded by paparazzi and tabloids, and even when he was laid to rest for the last time, no one was exempt.
Several media helicopters followed the helicopters that transported the man’s body from the hospital in Los Angeles. News about Michael Jackson and his family continues to circulate around the world today.
Today, it is his family members who receive the most attention. His children in particular are targeted, as the Jackson family is a popular target for the paparazzi.
Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson’s second daughter, grew up in the spotlight. Now she is doing everything she can to distance herself from Michael Jackson’s son and become a person in her own right.
He has suffered from mental health problems for several years, but is doing very well.
On April 3, 1998, in California, Paris Jackson was born. She is the only daughter and the second child of Michael Jackson.
Both she and her brother were home-schooled until sixth grade, making their early years quite private. The children were carefully shielded from the public because Michael Jackson wished to allow them to stay away. Children in Michael’s family wore costumes or had their heads wrapped in scarves to hide their faces in early photographs.
As a result, life at Neverland Ranch was extremely difficult for Paris and her siblings. No one can deny that they were immensely wealthy, but it must have been difficult, too.
While speaking to model Naomi Campbell in a YouTube interview, Paris Jackson opened up about her father and her upbringing.
He said Michael Jackson made sure they were “cultured.”
“My dad really made sure that we were cultured, educated, and not just showing us the glitz and glamour, like five-star hotels,” Paris said.
“It was like we had seen it all. We saw third world countries. We saw all sides of the spectrum.”
Paris Jackson lived all over the world during her childhood, while her father toured the world performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people.
She says she is very grateful for her “privileged” childhood. But at the same time, Paris learned early on that she shouldn’t feel privileged. Her father made sure his children understood the concept of having to work for things.
“Even when I was younger, it was all about making money,” Paris said. “If we wanted five toys from FAO Schwarz or Toys ‘R’ Us, we had to read five books.
“You have to earn it, not just be entitled to certain things or think ‘oh, I have this’,” he added. “You have to work hard for it, it’s a completely different thing, it’s an achievement.”
Paris was only 11 years old when her father died.
On June 25, 2009, “The King of Pop” suffered a cardiac arrest at his home and died shortly after being taken to a nearby hospital. Paris and her siblings were placed under the legal care of their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, according to Michael’s will.
During her father’s televised funeral, 11-year-old Paris stood up in front of the world to say a few words about her father.
“Since I was born, my dad has been the best father anyone could ever imagine,” she said. “And I just wanted to tell him that I love him so much.”
Paris and her brothers, Prince Michael, 12, and Prince Michael II, 7, were present during the televised memorial service. In fact, it was practically the first time the world got to see more than just a glimpse of Jackson’s children.
Then, in January 2010, they were seen in public again when they accepted a posthumous lifetime achievement award for their father at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
In November of that year, Paris appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show to talk about her father and said he was amazing.
“I felt like no one understood what a great father he was. He was the best cook in the world,” she told Winfrey. “He was just a normal dad.”
“She made the best French toast ever,” Paris added.
When Michael Jackson died, Paris Jackson moved into a mansion in Calabasas, California, with her grandmother Katherine Jackson, along with other family members, according to the Daily Mail.
At the age of 19, she decided to move into Michael Jackson’s private studio in the family residence, which she transformed into a dormitory-style bedroom.
Losing your father is already a difficult experience. But for Paris it was much more than that. Suddenly, she was expected to carry on her father’s legacy.
“I tried to grow up too fast” When she entered fifth grade, Paris decided to go to a private school. At the time, the only ones who accepted her as she was were the older students, and it wasn’t perfect.
“I was doing a lot of things that 13-, 14-, 15-year-olds shouldn’t do. I tried to grow up too fast and I wasn’t really a very nice person,” he told Rolling Stone.
At the same time, social media had become mainstream and Paris was grappling with cyberbullying.
“Freedom of speech is a good thing,” he said. “But I don’t think our founding fathers predicted the advent of social media when they created all these amendments and stuff.”
Paris experienced a lot of trauma during her teenage years. She even attempted suicide after a very serious incident, but it also marked a turning point in her life.
She spent her sophomore year, as well as half of her junior year, at a therapeutic school in Utah, which was fantastic for her.
“I’m a completely different person,” he said. “I was crazy. I was really crazy, I was going through a lot of teenage angst. And I also had to manage my depression and anxiety without any help.”
Paris graduated from high school in 2015, a year ahead of schedule, but at the time she had a lot on her mind. She was one of the heirs to Michael Jackson’s multi-million dollar estate and was seen as a celebrity by everyone, even though she hadn’t actually done anything.
Today, Jackson is headed in the same direction as her father: show business. She took her father’s advice to heart: if you want something, you have to work for it. During Naomi Campbell’s interview, Paris said she was “convinced” she had to make a living for herself.
For someone who was born into an incredibly wealthy family, as the son of one of the most famous people in modern history, this is something we truly love about Paris. No matter what happened in her past or who her father is, she wants to do whatever she wants.
She grew up surrounded only by adults, except for her brothers and sisters. When she left Neverland to go to a real school, it was a big change for her. She grew up as Michael Jackson’s daughter, but for her the world was much more than that. And at first it was really difficult.
“Once I was introduced to the real world, I was shocked. I was blown away,” Paris told Harper’s Bazaar. “Not just because it was sexist, but also misogynistic, racist and cruel. It was terribly scary. And it’s still very scary.”
So what did Paris do? She went her own way, starting out by working as a model. And she has a real talent for it!
In recent years, she has appeared on the covers of some of the world’s most influential magazines, including Rolling Stone, Vogue and Narcisse, to name a few.
For Paris, modelling is a very therapeutic and natural activity. Many were shocked when her father was transformed thanks to his numerous cosmetic surgeries. But in the age of social media and cyberbullying, Paris understands his choice.
“I’ve had self-esteem issues for a long, long time,” she said. “A lot of people think I’m ugly and a lot of people don’t. But there comes a point when I’m a model where I forget about my self-esteem issues and I just focus on what the photographer is telling me, and I feel pretty. And in that sense, it’s selfish.”
Paris’ Instagram followers get a glimpse into her life as she seems to enjoy spending time with her friends and enjoying all the things in life that she didn’t get to fully experience when she was younger.
She released her debut album Wilted in 2020, following in her father’s musical footsteps. Paris Jackson makes music, but her CD is more indie folk than the R&B and pop style her father was famous for.
“It’s mostly about heartbreak and love, in general, and the thoughts and feelings that come after that don’t work,” she told Paper.
Paris Jackson grew up with her father’s music and says she knows all the lyrics to his songs. While she created her own sound, it’s inevitable that Michael Jackson’s musical tastes influenced her.
“He loved classical music, jazz, hip-hop, R&B and, of course, everything Motown,” she says.
Paris Jackson paid tribute to her father on her body, getting more than 50 tattoos. Nine of them are dedicated to Michael Jackson.
“I feel it with me all the time” She doesn’t believe that time heals and instead has learned to live with the tragic loss of her father.
But at the same time, Michael Jackson will always be with her, because she remembers that he visited her in her dreams.
“I live my life with the mindset of, ‘OK, I lost the only thing that was important to me,’” he told Rolling Stone. “So in the future, whatever bad thing might happen can’t be as bad as what happened before. So I can handle it.”
Anyone who has experienced the loss of their parents can relate to Paris and the pain that comes with it. However, no one experienced childhood the same way Paris Jackson did.
We’re delighted that she can now go about her business without the paparazzi following her wherever she goes. Good luck, Paris!
