According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man United is planning to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.
In August, Man United decided to hand captain Bruno Fernandes a new contract with an attractive salary. However, the Portuguese player has only played average in the current campaign and has not scored a goal in 11 appearances in all competitions.
Not only that, Fernandes is 30 years old. It is no surprise to see Man United linked with quality attacking midfielders, including Florian Wirtz. According to Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are planning to sign the German international, who is also on the wish list of many other top clubs such as Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
The famous journalist of Sky Sports added that Bayer Leverkusen want to sell Wirtz abroad, thereby ruling out the possibility of him moving to Bayern. The Bundesliga champions, on the other hand, consider a move to Real Madrid next summer unrealistic for Wirtz.
Wirtz scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s side last season, helping Die Werksself to a domestic double. This season, the 21-year-old playmaker, who is valued at around £99.9m, has contributed directly to five goals in six Bundesliga appearances, but Leverkusen are currently sixth in the table.
