Rihanna fans are ‘shocked’ after only just finding out what the lyrics in one of her first hits SOS mean.
When artists talk about the ways in which they go about writing songs, there seems to be a million different ways a hit can be born.
Some sit at a piano until the words just flow, others reflect heavily on past experiences.
But one songwriter that worked with Rihanna on one of her first hit singles, SOS, has revealed the ‘clever’ way they went about the songwriting process.

One user in the comments of the Reddit post even suggested that the revelation was ‘better than’ all ‘Taylor Swift easter eggs’ combined…bold statement.

In a video, E. Kidd Bogart who wrote the song said: “When I wrote it [SOS] I had no idea what I was doing.
“The whole second verse of that song is 80s song titles strung together as sentences, because I thought it would be super clever.”
Relaying the lyrics as song titles, he added:
“Take on me, aha / You know inside you feel it right / Take me on / I could just die up in your arms tonight / I melt with you / you got me head over heels / oh boy you keep me hanging on / The way you make me feel.”
Interesting, right?!
He added: “They’re all number one songs from the 80s.”
And this was the first Rihanna fans had heard of the genius meaning behind the song.

One said: “I love this so much, I’ve heard that song hundreds of times and never noticed.”
Another said: “This is my karaoke jam and half those songs in the lyrics are also my karaoke jams.
“This is so absolutely clever that it went right over my head!!”
A third added: “Damn this is awesome, how did no one spot this. I guess they were names that weren’t hyper unique and sounded like lyrics so sort of camouflaged.”
But Rihanna’s hit isn’t the only song that was made using the interesting method.
The chorus of Anne Marie’s hit 2002 was also made with other song titles.
Here’s a reminder:
“Oops / I got 99 problems / singing bye, bye, bye /

And you will never listen to them the same again!
