The 27-year-old Scotland defender has only played three times for Napoli since moving there from Manchester United for £25.7 million last month.

He scored in the 77th minute with help from a player who used to play for United.

Romelu Lukaku beat Pietro Ceccaroni with great speed and strength and then played the ball back for McTominay to score from 10 yards out. Lukaku played at Old Trafford from 2017 to 2019.

Before this season, McTominay scored 29 goals in 255 games for United.

The Scudetto hopes of Antonio Conte had no answer for Palermo on Thursday, even though they are now in Serie B.

Cyril Ngonge scored two goals early on, making it 2-0 inside 12 minutes.

It was 3-0 when Juan Jesus scored near the end of the first half. In the 58th minute, Aljosa Vasic of Palermo was sent off.

Napoli’s fourth goal of the night was scored by David Neres with 20 minutes left, not long before Lukaku and McTominay came on as replacements.

Lukaku joined Napoli from Chelsea in August but he was a United player from 2017 to 2019

They had been on the pitch for less than 60 seconds before they worked together to score goal No. 5.

Lukaku has played in four games for Napoli since leaving Chelsea for £30 million this summer.

McTominay also joined Napoli in August, when he arrived from Old Trafford in a £25.7m deal

The Belgian, who is 31 years old, has scored two goals for his present team so far.
