Dana White Reveals Bizarre Plan for Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg Fight in the Colosseum After UFC 306 Success
Remember when the world went into a frenzy after Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to an MMA fight? The buzz around that potential billionaire showdown dominated headlines for months, even catching the attention of UFC President Dana White. In a recent revelation, White shared his behind-the-scenes efforts to make the fight happen, offering a surprising twist that many didn’t see coming.
While both Musk and Zuckerberg shared training clips for what was being called the “battle of the billionaires,” Zuckerberg eventually backed out, citing Musk’s lack of seriousness. However, Dana White had been working tirelessly behind the scenes with a grand vision in mind—he wanted to stage the fight inside the historic Colosseum in Rome.
The idea of Musk and Zuckerberg facing off was shocking enough, but what really stunned people was Musk’s own suggestion to hold the fight in one of the world’s seven wonders, the Colosseum. White was immediately on board with the concept, and after the successful UFC 306 event inside the Sphere, the 55-year-old CEO revealed how much he enjoys tackling “crazy” projects like this one.
“Me wanting to do the Sphere, something will pop up that you don’t understand, didn’t expect to happen and I jump on it when they pop up,” White said during the UFC 306 post-fight press conference. “At one point, I was talking about Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg. Any crazy sh*t that pops up in front of me, I take it.”
White went on to disclose the lengths he went to in order to bring the Musk vs. Zuckerberg fight to life. While in Italy, he took the opportunity to reach out to the officials in charge of the Colosseum to explore the possibility of hosting the fight there. “I was legit negotiating with the Colosseum in Italy to do that fight. [I was] legitimately in negotiation with the [Italian authorities], and they let anything happen over there,” White said.
Unfortunately, the Colosseum—while known for its rich history of ancient battles—is still a nearly 2,000-year-old monument, and hosting an MMA fight within its walls was a stretch too far for Italian authorities. Negotiations ultimately fell through.
As iconic as Musk and Zuckerberg are in the tech world, it seems highly unlikely that this fight will ever become a reality. Even the Meta CEO’s own executives were reportedly uncomfortable with Zuckerberg’s martial arts ambitions. So, for now, the idea of these two tech titans battling it out remains more of a fantasy than a foreseeable event.
