The New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers share a heated rivalry, and the animosity between the teams is no secret. Recently, this rivalry took a new twist when Knicks fans made their feelings about Sixers star Joel Embiid abundantly clear.
At a recent event in Central Park, Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart appeared on the Roommates Show. The occasion turned electric when a video surfaced showing a passionate crowd chanting “F**k Embiid.” The chant was a clear indication of the strong sentiment Knicks fans hold towards the 76ers’ star.
Despite the antagonistic nature of the chants, Josh Hart seemed to relish the atmosphere. In the video, he is seen encouraging the crowd with enthusiastic gestures, visibly enjoying the energy of the fans.
The spotlight on Embiid extends beyond fan reactions. Recently, NBA legend Kevin Garnett weighed in on the current hierarchy in the Eastern Conference. On the show “All The Smoke,” Garnett was asked about the top player in the East and specifically about Giannis Antetokounmpo. Instead of naming Antetokounmpo, Garnett highlighted Joel Embiid as a standout player, suggesting that Embiid’s presence makes him a top contender in the conference.
“You can’t overlook Embiid with him in the mix,” Garnett stated. He went on to mention that while Antetokounmpo is a formidable player, Embiid and Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum are also strong contenders for the top spot.
Embiid’s performance last season was impressive, averaging 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. However, his season was marred by a knee injury sustained during a game against the Golden State Warriors. As he recovers, the Sixers are hopeful that Embiid’s return will propel them toward title contention, particularly with the recent addition of Paul George to the team.
As the new NBA season approaches, the dynamics between Embiid, the Knicks, and the Eastern Conference contenders will continue to be a focal point for fans and analysts alike.
