Daniel Dubois said he feels it’s “his time” to end Anthony Joshua’s reign at the top of the British heavyweight scene as he says he looks to slay the 34-year-old when they meet in London on September 21.
Dubois comes into the fight with a lot of momentum following his fight against Oleksander Usyk in August 2023 when he floored the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring champion, in what the referee controversially called a low blow.
Whilst he went on to lose that night, he swiftly rebounded with knockout wins against Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic to become the interim IBF champion which he now aims to defend from Joshua and to legitimise the title and he feels up to the challenge.
“I was speaking about before,” Dubois told DAZN. “I was in a dark place and I was going through some stuff.
“He’s been the king for a long time, in fact, but you know what it’s? I feel like it’s my time, and I’m a king slayer, and I’ve got to do that again.”
Joshua, meanwhile, enters in a very good run of form since his own showdowns with Usyk too. The ex-champion has rolled off four wins in a row over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and a devastating round two knockout of Francis Ngannou.
It means he’s restoring his legacy as one of the most feared punchers in the sport and as someone who can brutally overwhelm his rivals with fast, powerful combinations whilst retaining the mental smarts to stay out of trouble too.
As a result, it tees up a sensational clash on September 21 at the famous Wembley Stadium to see whether Dubois will make the IBF belt his own or if AJ will become a three-time heavyweight champion.
