Chelsea has finally announced that Jadon Sancho will be moving on loan from Manchester United, almost 21 hours after the deadline.
The 24-year-old winger, who used to play for England, has moved teams for the rest of the season. The Blues had to buy him for a reported £23 million.
That means United will lose a huge £50 million on the former Borussia Dortmund star.
He told the Chelsea website, “I’m thrilled to be here.” I’m glad to be back in London, where I grew up.
“The manager told me about the project, which is exciting for a young player like me.” I hope I can help the Bridge score goals and get helpers.”
Some say Chelsea won’t have to pay until they finish above 14th in the Premier League.
Sancho would then sign a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge if they did that.
A few other deals were made after the window closed at 11 p.m. on Friday because the deal sheets were turned in on time for them to be finalized by 1 a.m. on Saturday.
But, strangely, Chelsea didn’t say anything about Sancho’s move until 7.30 pm on Saturday.
Sky Sports says that Chelsea’s leaders think the chance to get Sancho is “too good to turn down.”
Even though he had a rough time at Old Trafford, the West London club is sure they can “get the best out of him.”
Rasheem Sterling left Chelsea to sign with Arsenal on a season-long loan, so Chelsea can afford to sign the winger.
Sancho’s move comes three years after United paid £73 million to get him from Dortmund.
But since going back to his home country, he’s had a terrible time. In 83 games for Manchester United, he’s only scored 12 goals.
He also got into a big fight with Erik ten Hag in public, which got him kicked off the team and sent back to Dortmund on loan in January.
In a shocking Instagram post in September, Sancho said that the boss made him a “scapegoat” by leaving him out of a game-day squad because he wasn’t doing well in training.
The player then refused to say sorry to Ten Hag, so he was kicked out of all first-team facilities at the club’s training ground.
He played in preseason and the Community Shield loss to Manchester City, so it looked like he and the Dutchman had made up over the summer.
