The Dallas Cowboys have traded tight end Peyton Hendershot to the Kansas City Chiefs for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Instead of cutting the third-year undrafted tight end out of Indiana, the Cowboys get conditional value for a talented receiving threat that could help benefit the Chiefs’ aerial attack if activated.

The conditions of the trade will include the Cowboys receiving that seventh-round pick in 2026 if Hendershot is on the 53-man roster for five games in 2024 or on the 46-man gameday roster three times in 2024. If either requirement is not met, the Chiefs will retain their seventh-round pick.

Hendershot, who was acquired after the 2022 NFL Draft, made a splash as a rookie when he hauled in 11 receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns along with one carry for two yards and a touchdown. His ability as an inline threat that could stretch the field in the receiving game proved to be useful for the Cowboys, but that ability did not evolve in his second season with the Cowboys.

His 2023 campaign saw him haul in just four receptions for 38 yards and 0 touchdowns. He also missed nine games with a lingering ankle injury that handicapped his sophomore season in the NFL.

Training camp saw young tight ends John Stephens Jr. and Brevyn Spann-Ford pass up Hendershot on the depth chart, as the Cowboys planned to move on from the Indiana product before the Chiefs were able to strike a deal for some value. Now, Hendershot gets an automatic fresh start with the two-time defending Super Bowl champions in a tight end room that includes Travis Kelce and rookie Jared Wiley.
