Lil Wayne, a name synonymous with rap royalty, has collaborated with numerous rap icons throughout his storied career. Despite his impressive list of partnerships, there remains one artist he has yet to record with, despite her immense talent and influence in the music world.
During his recent appearance on “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward,” Lil Wayne, also known as Weezy, shared his dream collaborations. Reflecting on artists who have passed, he expressed his desire to have worked with legends like Michael Jackson and Prince. “Michael Jackson,” he mentioned first. “The second one would be — not even the second [but] 1A would be Prince. You already know that the other two — if we’re going to do rap — the other two have to be Biggie and ‘Pac, plain and simple.”
However, the conversation soon shifted to potential future collaborations. Wayne revealed the name of a living legend he dreams of teaming up with: Lauryn Hill. Despite his illustrious career, Lil Wayne has not yet recorded a track with Hill, although he has shared the stage with her in some capacity.
In a memorable moment last year, Lil Wayne made a surprise appearance at Lauryn Hill’s show in Los Angeles, part of her 25th-anniversary tour. Fans were thrilled when he took the stage, but it was his freestyle over the Fugees’ classic song “Ready or Not” that truly stole the show. The impromptu performance left both fans and fellow artists in awe. Among them was The Game, who expressed his admiration on social media, writing: “Got chills [hands-up emoji].”
The idea of a collaboration between Lil Wayne and Lauryn Hill is tantalizing. Wayne has been hinting at new projects, including the highly anticipated sixth installment of his flagship album series, “Tha Carter.” In his interview on “Not Just Football,” he confirmed that this would be his next full-length release, though he couldn’t provide a concrete release date.
The potential for a collaboration seems more plausible given that Wayne has already been in the studio with Wyclef Jean, another member of the Fugees, in 2022. This connection might pave the way for a future project with Hill.
Lauryn Hill, on the other hand, has been relatively quiet on the music front since her groundbreaking 1998 debut album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” However, there has been renewed hope for new music. Last month, Hill seemed to confirm her son YG Marley’s statement that “music’s on the way,” sparking excitement among her fans.
Lil Wayne’s career has been marked by his ability to cross genres and collaborate with a wide range of artists, creating timeless music. A partnership with Lauryn Hill would not only fulfill a personal dream for Wayne but also provide fans with a historic collaboration that blends the unique styles of two rap and R&B titans.
As fans eagerly await Wayne’s upcoming projects and the possibility of new music from Lauryn Hill, the idea of these two legends coming together remains a thrilling prospect. Whether it’s for “Tha Carter VI” or another project, a collaboration between Lil Wayne and Lauryn Hill would undoubtedly be a monumental moment in music history.
